Loved This Story

I absolutely loved this story. I don't want to give any spoilers but this novella's premise took me by surprise and kept me riveted to my reader. Joseph going "gangster" was really sort of scary while also deserving. Anger Management problems, indeed. In summary, this book features cool action, great suspense, and a satisfying ending that leaves the story open for more. I would love to read a sequel.

A Zombie Book with a Difference

I've read a lot of indie zombie apocalypse books on my Kindle, and they start to get pretty repetitive after a while. This one manages to be different. True, some of the negatives written about in previous reviews exist, especially the frequent grammar miscues. But looking past that I found this book to be a refreshingly different way of doing a zombie book.
What makes this book stand out from the crowd is that it's populated by a cast of characters that act like real people. The main character isn't an over-confident survivalist or super-soldier. Not all the women in the book are attractive. Not all officers in the army are incompetent. It's like real life. Some people are smart, some are not. Some are brave, some are not. Several characters are soldiers who are (gasp) pretty much like regular people. Sometimes they do stupid things, and often they don't have a great plan but are just feeling their way forward.
As for the main character's large and complicated family, they were pretty real too. Each have their personal flaws that dictate their behavior, and the author does a good job of making sure they stay true to their characters. This is truly a character-driven story about a man trying to reunite with his family as the family tries to survive.
The may-get-attacked-and-eaten-at-any-moment suspense that carries many zombie books is present in this book, too. But here it is even more effective because you know that, just like you or I, these people are not ready to deal with the situation. I hope there is a sequel, because I'll definitely read it.

Interesting Premise ...

I am very interested in apocalyse/end-of-the-world novels, which is why I originally chose this novel. The premise is interesting ... a zombie-type plague caused by unnamed and unknown terrorists, but two things left me to say "just okay". First, the editing of the book is terrible, with many misspelled words, and perhaps more importantly, the dialog was, for the most part, silly and uninteresting. While I realize that the main characters were enlised men and country folk, I think the dialog could have been much more engaging.
