"Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" the disciples asked Jesus.
The Savior’s immediate response was "Take heed that no man deceive you." (Matthew 24:3-4.) Throughout history, the Saints of God have asked questions about the Second Coming, the signs of the times, the end of the world, Armageddon, the Millennium, and countless other aspects of the last days. Yet for many, the answers to their questions remain shrouded in confusion and misunderstanding, making the Lord’s response about deception more chilling. In Behold, I Come Quickly: The Last Days and Beyond, Hoyt Brewster looks at the teachings and prophecies of ancient and modern prophets concerning the times we live in now and the times to come. In a clear and straightforward manner, the author discusses dozens of signs of the latter days and examines many specific prophecies about what has happened and what will happen. He talks about preparedness and the Second Coming. Major topics of confusion, such as the gathering of Israel, God and Magog, the restoration of the Ten Tribes, Adam-ondi-Ahman, and the New Jerusalem, are clarified. The end of the world and Satan’s role in the last days are vividly depicted. The author details what the Millennium will be like and what will happen during it. Readers will also find valuable information on the Resurrection and final judgment. Behold, I Come Quickly relies on the scriptures and the teachings of latter-day prophets to create a memorable, easy-to-understand portrait of the last days.

PREFACE
Perhaps no topic is as fascinating and at the same time so subject to speculation as that of the end of the world. Christianity associates this event with the second coming of Jesus Christ and the commencement of the thousand-year period of peace known as the Millennium. Other religions also look towards a time when the world as we now know it will no longer exist. The time leading up to the Millennium is known as the last days, a time filled with cataclysmic events and marvelous heavenly manifestations. That we are already living in such a time seems validated by the daily diet of increasing calamities and catastrophes fed to us by the news media.
Ancient prophets and apostles recorded their prophecies not only of the disasters and distresses of the last days, but also of the marvelous blessings and wondrous events that would surely come. Sometimes there is such concern for and emphasis on the negative aspects of the last days that the positive prophecies regarding these times are ignored.
A modern-day apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, Elder Neal A. Maxwell, has reminded us to maintain a proper perspective: "Yes, there will be wrenching polarization on this planet, but also the remarkable reunion with our colleagues in Christ from the City of Enoch. Yes, nation after nation will become a house divided, but more and more unifying Houses of the Lord will grace this planet. Yes, Armageddon lies ahead. But so does Adam-ondi-Ahman!" (Ensign, November 1981, p. 10.)
Thus, while the righteous and the wicked may both suffer the natural consequences coming from calamities associated with the last days, to the righteous the coming of the Lord will be a "great day," while to the wicked it shall be a "dreadful day." (See Malachi 4:5.) The righteous watch for the events foreshadowing the end of the world and the second coming of the Savior, taking whatever precautions they feel are necessary, but they are not in constant disabling distress. Speaking of His return to the earth and the times that would precede it, the Savior said: "Watch therefore…be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." (Matthew 24:42,44.)
The purpose of this book is to assist in one’s efforts to watch and be ready by identifying the signs and events of the last days. In addition to focusing on the last days and the Second Coming, this book will discuss the revealed events of the Millennium and final destiny of this earth and its inhabitants. In this age there is much speculation regarding the last days. This work avoids the popular yet useless speculative tendency in favor of focusing on the revealed word of God through the scriptures and the teachings of those sustained as prophets, seers, and revelators. Two statements by men sustained in these sacred offices will suffice to set the spiritual tone for the rationale and contents of this book.
First, consider the declaration from the tenth prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Joseph Fielding Smith:
Trouble in the earth will continue; there will be distress, calamity, and perplexity among the nations. We need not look for peace in the immediate future because peace will not come. Nevertheless, we may look forward with rejoicing; we need not be downcast, but in the spirit of faith and hope, and in the fear of the Lord, we should look to the future with feelings of joy, of humility, and of worship, with the desire in our hearts, stronger if possible than ever, of serving the Lord and keeping his commandments, for the day of his coming draws near. (DS, 3:51-52.)
Now reflect on this recent testimony from Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles:
Living in these difficult times…requires each one of us to maintain a positive, hopeful perspective about the future… My message to you today, my brothers and sisters, is simply this: the Lord is in control. He knows the end from the beginning. He has given us adequate instruction that, if followed, will see us safely through any crisis. His purposes will be fulfilled, and someday we will understand the eternal reasons for all of these events. Therefore, today we must be careful to not overreact, nor should we be caught up in extreme preparations, but what we must do is keep the commandments of God and never lose hope! But where do we find hope in the midst of such turmoil and catastrophe? Quite simply, our one hope for spiritual safety during these turbulent times is to turn our minds and our hearts to Jesus Christ. (Ensign, November 1992, pp. 31,32.)
As you, the reader, study and ponder the teachings and warnings regarding the last days, do not lose hope. Focus on those things that matter most and recognize the overriding hand of the Lord in preparing the world for His second coming.

AN INTERESTING SURVEY OF LATTER-DAY SAINT ESCHATOLOGY
By Steven H Propp
Hoyt W. Brewster is also the author of books such as Defining Moments, Doctrine and Covenants Encyclopedia, Who's Who: A Book of Mormon Ready Reference, Isaiah Plain & Simple: The Message of Isaiah in the Book of Mormon, etc.
He wrote in the Preface to this 1994 book, "The purpose of this book is to assist in one's efforts to watch and be ready by identifying the signs and events of the last days. In addition to focusing on the last days and the Second Coming, this book will discuss the revealed events of the Millennium and final destiny of this earth and its inhabitants. In this age there is much speculation regarding the last days."
Here are some quotations from the book:
"How can we explain the fact that the temple (in Jackson County, Missouri) is still not built? Many explanations for this seeming paradox have been given, but the fact remains that to this date we do not have a complete understanding of its meaning." (Pg. 121)
"Thus, while we watch with great interest the continuing strengthening of a Jewish homeland, we look forward with great eagerness to the day when Judah shall be converted to Christ and truly be gathered." (Pg. 134)
"Thus, Joseph Smith knew that the lost ten tribes of Israel would return from their outcast state and receive the blessings of the restored gospel from their brethren in Ephraim." (Pg. 136)
"Early leaders of the The Church ... taught that the Garden of Eden was located in what is now Jackson County, Missouri. (See JD, 11:337) When Adam and Eve were driven from the Garden, they traveled north to Adam-ondi-Ahman, where they offered sacrifices to God. The Prophet Joseph Smith discovered in that area an ancient pile of stones that he identified as part of Adam's sacrificial altar." (Pg. 147-148)
"When the wicked are destroyed, those of a telestial nature will be swept from the face of the earth, and only those capable of living celestial and terrestrial lives will remain." (Pg. 197)
"Only those worthy of celestial or terrestrial glory will inhabit the earth during the Millennium. All others must wait for the resurrection of the unjust when the thousand years of peace will be disrupted for a little season prior to the final judgment." (Pg. 206)
"A major effort during the thousand-year period of Christ's reign on earth will be the focus on temple work. This will be 'the great work of the millennium,' said President Joseph Fielding Smith." (Pg. 211)
"Satan will be 'loosed a little season' to work his wickedness in one last effort to gather souls for his evil cause... What is 'a little season'? President Joseph Fielding Smith suggested it may be close to one thousand years..." (Pg. 222)
"...there will be two future battles of Gog and Magog; one at the time of Armageddon, preceding the Second Coming; and, as taught by the Prophet Joseph Smith, one 'will be after the millennium.' (TPJS, p. 280)" (Pg. 224)

Brewster has a solid understanding of the issues of our day and the doctrine of the physical and spiritual gathering of Israel
By Golden Lion
1. "An whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed."
2. "O, ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combination shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain."
3. "For it cometh to pass that whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people, for it is built up by the devil, who is the father of all lies" (ether 8:22-25)
4. President Benson said, "A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world". The communist conspiracy see to rule the world. Satan works through governments, false educational, political, economic, religious, and social philosophies to lead men captive to his will, "even as many as who will not hearken to the voice of the Lord".
5. Apostates include "member who repeatedly act in clear, open and deliberate public opposition to the church or its leaders; or persist in teach as Church doctrine information that is not church doctrine after being corrected by bishops or higher authority." The apostate considers himself to be "learned" but seeks to "undermine the leaders whom the Lord has chosen"; they feel there leaders are "out of touch with the realities of the day" and "substitute their own knowledge for the revelations replacing the key revelations from God to his prophets."
6. President John Taylor said, "And then the day is not far distant when the nations will be shaken from centre to circumference" and "I will prophesy it in the name of the God. And then will be fulfilled that predictions to be found in one of the revelations given through the Prophet Joseph Smith (D&C 45:65-71)
7. "Those who will not take up the sword to fight against their neighbor must needs flee to Zion". Zion numbers will be strong enough to ward off the anarchist. "They will come, saying, we do not know anything of the principles of your religion, but we perceive that you are an honest community; you administer justice and righteousness, and we want to live with you and receive the protection of your laws, but was fair your religion we will talk about the some other time"
8. The Kingdom of God starts as the Church but becomes the theocratic government for the benefit of all mankind. Both members and none members serve as officers of the Kingdom. The Lord receives his Kingdom and establishes his rule as King at the Second Coming of Christ.
