This Book Sucks the Laughter from Your Body

First of all... as an Amazonian (woman who buys way too many books) I'm always suspicious of the first couple of reviews if they're really good. They could be written by friends who don't want the author sleeping on their couch anymore; or people being blackmailed by the author to say something good or the details of that lost weekend in high school will be his/her next book (videos on Youtube); or the 5-starred reviewers are related to the writer.

I am not Ben Nesvig's mother. I am a real reader. This is a very funny book. Really.

I would write more except I have to go eat a couple of ice cream sandwhiches because the 3-minute microwave pizza burned the roof of my mouth.

Five stars for laugh-out-loud-literature. I eagerly await the 3-D movie.

A great relatable read

The book was so fun to read and I read it in one sitting! I was like a crazy person laughing out loud to myself. With the food issues and the annoyance with hotel beds I found myself cracking up and wanting to share with friends.

Ben's sarcastic tone a-la David Sedaris was refreshing to read. I usually read more crime thrillers and this book was a welcome change to the books I usually read.

Thanks for a great read and for making me feel better about all the times I complain about my iPhone battery dying and my iced tea being too caffeinated and all the other first world problems I complain about ruining my life!

Incredible read, just not in public.

I made the mistake of reading this during my daily commutes in NYC. I would laugh, out loud, in that busting-out-of-your-throat-hey-look-at-me-i'm-laughing-at-something-hilarious-while-you're-complaining-about-your-commute kind of laugh. On that first bus ride, I quietly turned off my kindle and hid my face in my scarf while trying to not laugh. By the time I got on the train, I didn't care. I was laughing like a mad person. I mean it's NYC ... crazy people are EVERYWHERE! Ben Nesvig's observations are things we all have thought at one time or another but never had the foresight to put them in a book.

EVERYONE should read this book. EVERYONE. I say, everyone who has read it, just grab your neighbors kindle and download it for them. They might be upset at first but I'm sure they will thank you later. Besides, if they didn't want you to download it, why would they keep their login information saved on their device?

Thorough Coverage

My background is in Java and C++. The book takes you through C# and .NET from the beginning. Some knowledge of programming is probably required. I found the book interesting, easy to understand and actually quite an entertaining read. The examples are simple, focusing only on illustrating a single concept at a time. So the examples were really easy to follow. Great book for learning C# and .NET

This is the best C# book currently available

Mr. Troelsen's book is the best resource currently available (Nov 2012) for learning C#. His writing style is easy to follow and his examples are error-free. The "Pro" in the title means that this book is not intended for absolute beginners who have never programmed before. If you have prior experience with C# or another object-oriented language, then you will probably have no trouble reading this book. But if you are like me with limited programming experience then another introductory book (I like Microsoft's Step By Step) should be read first. I really like how each topic is presented, starting with the long drawn-out way to get things done and finishing with the elegant shorthand syntax which C# seems to provide for every task. By doing this, I am able to appreciate how well designed the C# language really is. I also like how the examples build on each other as you work through the book. Finally, this book is up-to-date and very complete. It should make a great reference book.

Have been waiting on various new books to drop including MVC in Context and others that brings together all of the new techs in one place to give you the wholelistic view of modern day Worlds best practice coding standards. Honestly did not expect the wealth of technologies covered in this book

Walks you through the evolution of the syntax and implementations as they have evolved over the years. Puts a light on how and why the changes took place by progressing from 1.0 => 4.0 and then finally spins out the 4.5 add ons (Delegates & Async Programming just to name a few)

Easy to digest without missing out on the detail which is missing in so many books
EntityFramework
Dependency Injection
Generics

Helps fill in the gaps you have in your knowledge set by providing the complete answer

Is the reference bible of "How to Do It", even if you use it as a tool to confirm that what you are/have been doing is WBP (Worl Best practice)

Is part Reference Bible & Recipes & Patterns & practices in One, It does not get much better than this

There is, she asserts, a suicide every 17 minutes in this country. Identifying suicide as an often preventable medical and social problem, Jamison focuses attention on those under 40 (suicides by those who are older often have different motivations or causes). Citing research that suicide is most common in individuals with mental illness (diagnosed or not), particularly depression and manic depression, she clearly describes the role of hormones and neurotransmitters as well as potential therapies, including lithium and other antidepressants. Jamison presents fascinating facts about suicide in families and in twins, gender disparities, and the impact of the seasons and times of day. She also provides poignant portraits of those who have committed suicideAfrom the explorer Meriwether Lewis to a high-achieving Air Force Academy graduateAas well as stories from her own experience. As a person who has dealt with suicide ideation all my life, and understand why I have this issue. Alot of it is from early childhood trauma and emotional flashbacks that can hit you when something triggers it. In this book I felt like there was alot of misinformation about various aspects on the subject. I would not recommend this book as of real value to anyone wishing to understand suicide. There is a book I had found when I was younger that gave some really great in depth insight but it still didn't delve into certain areas but it was a great book. It's called the noonday demon.

Disappointing book. It only talks about suicide as if it were a mental illness. Well, some people get to that conclusion through a logical reasoning. It's a choice. The difficult part is, why these people think like that? What can we, as a society, do, so more sensitive people can cope with such a difficult burden?
I just think it's sad someone has spent so long researching and still hasn't understood that many people don't have any mental issues. They just can't stand life. Because we all agree, that life is hard.
